Colonials for Clean Air 143 signatures

Exposure to second hand smoke is a major cause of death and disability.GWU students have the right to a smoke-free on-campus environment. The right of the non-smoker's health takes precedence over an individual's desire to smoke. Currently, 530 college campuses are smoke-free. With GWU's smoking policy up for review in May, it is important that GWU be part of the masses of schools that stand in support of a smoke-free campus. By signing, you are expressing to GWU administration that you support enforcement of DC's 25 foot no smoking rule, which will help to bring GW closer to being a smoke-free campus.

Congenital Heart Defect Awareness Day 123 signatures

On behalf of the many residents of Rhode Island whose lives are affected by Congenital Heart Defects (CHDs), Helping Hands, Healing Hearts, a local chapter of Mended Little Hearts, is requesting that the State of Rhode Island to sign into law a perpetual recognition of February 14th as Congenital Heart Defect Awareness Day. For many years past, Governor Carcieri, Governor Chafee, and several local Mayors have awarded Proclamations honoring and recognizing February 14th as Congenital Heart Defect Awareness Day, a Day of Hearts. We would like to take the next step. As in Massachusetts and recently in New York, we would like the State of Rhode Island to join the movement in making Congenital Heart Defect Awareness Day a permanent day of remembrance and recognition. Ranked as the most common birth defect, it is estimated that almost one in one hundred children are born with some type of heart defect. While many of these are repairable or require no surgery, a full half of these children will face one, if not many, surgeries in their lifetime. February is National Heart Month. Setting aside a day of remembrance and celebration of the great medical advances which keep children alive would honor the unseen battle that children and adults with CHD fight daily. Establishing such a day would help facilitate bringing much needed awareness to the general public regarding CHDs. This would significantly impact families who are currently coping with CHDs as well as those who will be touched by them in the future.

Request: Trust fund for a Michael Jackson Children's Hospital 116 signatures

We the fans of Michael Jackson want to fulfill Michael Jackson's wish to build a Michael Jackson Hospital. We would like the Michael Jackson Estate along with the Jackson Family to set up an official trust fund where fans can donate money for this goal. Michael's last recorded message: " I`m taking that money, a million children, children`s hospital, the biggest in the world, Michael Jackson`s children`s hospital. Going to have a movie theater, game room. Children are depressed. The -- in those hospitals, no game room, no movie theater. They`re sick because they`re depressed. Their mind is depressing them. I want to give them that. I care about them, them angels. God wants me to do it. God wants me to do it, I`m going to do it!"

Tell CVS to free the condoms! 63 signatures

HIV/AIDS, sexually transmitted infections, and unintended pregnancies affect CVS Caremark's customers, community members, and employees. Condoms play a key role in preventing unintended pregnancy and stopping the spread of HIV and other sexually transmitted infections. Despite this evidence, some CVS stores continue lock up condoms in low income and minority neighborhoods. By signing this petition, you are urging CVS Caremark to immediately unlock all condoms and to adopt a nationwide policy guaranteeing freely accessible condoms in its stores.

Monsanto says it is just devilishly good business. Monsanto has spent over $30 billion in recent years buying numerous U.S. seed companies. Stop St. Philip's Cell Tower Expansion/Remove Cell Tower 9 signatures

Do you know what lurk's under the facade of the St. Philip church tower? A 6 panel attena cell tower eminating radio frequency emissions to parishioners, school children, and countless others. Plans are underway to expand the tower to 12 panels, increasing the amount of radio frequency emissions. Some studies ndicate that these emissions have no undesirable health effects to those exposed, however we all know that given the new technology of all of this, it'll only be a matter of time until we see the true detrimental effects of exposure. It's easy money for the church but does it really need to come at a cost of the health of our children? Please visit the following site on some of the found effects of cell tower exposure to children: http://www.centerforsaferwireless.org/Cell-Phone-Towers-and-Antennas-on-School-Property.php Please sign this petition to show your support to not only STOP the expansion of the cell tower currently housed in St. Philip's cell tower but REMOVE it altogether.

Fight Obesity with Nutrition 3 signatures

Poor nutrition contributes to the risk of more than 20 major chronic illnesses that is killing 70 percent of Americans. Only 23% of Americans eat the daily recommended servings of fruits and vegetables. By including intense nutritional counseling in the standard preventative care screenings covered by the Affordable Care Act, patients will know the positive affects proper nutrition will have on their health. Prevention Following a healthy diet will reduce or even eliminate a person who may be genetically predisposed to diabetes from contracting this disease. The Department of Health and Human Services needs to know that Americans want to lead a longer and healthier life, but are lacking the counseling to make this lifestyle change.

Remove tobacco advertising from Stewart's Shops 1 signatures

President Dake, Behind every Stewart's Shop's checkout is a wall of tobacco products toppped with advertising posters. Some signs extend from the rack's ends in very prominant positions. Since current tobacco users know what they want without an ad, these posters are designed to entice new users to the nicotine habit. By posting these ads, the Stewart's Shops are promoting a public health hazard and participating in the recruitment of young people to a life-long vice. President Dake, you tell us this about your company: "Being privately held allows us to make rational, long-term decisions." Make the rational decision here, one that will have great long-term positive results for over 300 small communities throughout your region. Respectfully, we request that all tobacco product advertising be removed from your stores. Stewart's Shops will then truly "be closer to us."

Spend more of the taxpayers money on healthier lunches rather than expensive luxuries like 4 computer labs! 0 signatures

As we all know, school lunches have never been an appealing thing. We are always left with that sickening feeling that never leaves you with the satisfactory sense of being full. Our portions have also significantly decreased (1 "main dish" usually something along the lines of an ECOLI infested burger, or someother cheap, unhealthy meat, and 2 "sides", which are usually limited to "things" such as a small cup of juice or one of HOSTESS' famous HYDROGY-"Fruit Pies, featuring a new flavor "Lake Red Cherry"). Its amazing that we can spend all this money on CRAP like this instead of buying a simple salad, with REAL lettuce. To bring up another concern, schools spend an EXCESSIVE ammout of the taxpayers money on un-needed luxuries such as computer labs (WITH AN S) that are, most of the time not even in use. We need to stop allowing this, and insist that the school spend more money on childrens nutritional needs that on unnecessary luxuries. This is something to agree upon because were all paying ALOT of money for schools, and we deserve the right to a state of mind knowing that are children are safe and healthy.
