To Start a Recycling Depot at UBC 65 signatures
UBC's claim to being sustainable is currently not being fulfilled. The campuses quick fix of blue bins is not only inefficient, it is costing the university money (the average cost of collecting blue bins in BC is about $200 per tonne) which ultimately is taken out of your pockets. Creating a recycling depot not only creates jobs, it also creates money for the university. Now, most of our recycling is taken from campus and given to the recycling depot on Alma street. If a recycling depot were to be developed it would not only benefit the community, it would also decrease the amount of recyclable materials UBC throws away each year. Without your support, this movement will be shot down by the administration who believes that it is too much work to create such a depot. They refuse to see the facts that recycling depots only require a $120,000 investment and $60,000 of working capital, a fraction of the costs of other developments around UBC. In order to be sustainable, UBC needs a recycling depot. Without it we are not living up to our potential. We hope that you will join our cause and push for a greener future.
