Poor nutrition contributes to the risk of more than 20 major chronic illnesses that is killing 70 percent of Americans. Only 23% of Americans eat the daily recommended servings of fruits and vegetables. By including intense nutritional counseling in the standard preventative care screenings covered by the Affordable Care Act, patients will know the positive affects proper nutrition will have on their health. Prevention Following a healthy diet will reduce or even eliminate a person who may be genetically predisposed to diabetes from contracting this disease. The Department of Health and Human Services needs to know that Americans want to lead a longer and healthier life, but are lacking the counseling to make this lifestyle change.
